Job Description

Lawyer wanted to lead Special Victim’s Crime Unit (SVU)

We are seeking an experienced lawyer responsible for prosecuting and supervising prosecutors handling sex crimes cases in the 7th Judicial District, Colorado. The 7th Judicial District consists of six counties in western Colorado, including Montrose, Delta, Ouray, San Miguel, Gunnison, and Hinsdale Counties.

Duties:

Duties involve prosecuting sex crimes perpetrated against both adults and children. This includes but is not limited to reviewing and analyzing evidence for completeness; assisting law enforcement with investigation; warrant review; making charging decisions; preparing dockets; pre-trial negotiations; attending child forensic interviews; meeting with victims and witnesses; preparing witnesses and victims for litigation; complex motions practice; hearings; trials; participating in multi-disciplinary team; and supervising other attorneys in the district doing the same. Supervision includes but is not limited to training; consulting; coaching; holding monthly meetings and staffing; Assisting or second chairing trials; and being familiar with all SVU cases. This position provides the highest level of service to crime victims, and consults with defense counsel, law enforcement officers, and other judicial partners. Requirements:

  • Must have a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in Colorado or eligible to practice in Colorado based on UBE score or experience.
  • Must have a minimum of two [2] years’ experience prosecuting complex felony cases.
  • Experience prosecuting sex crimes is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Travel to all six counties in the district.
  • Prior management experience preferred but not required.

Salary: $96,700.00 – $110,000.00 per year DOQ plus benefits.
