Supporting LGBTQ+ Victims: Important Concepts & Strategies for Effective Advocacy
Free webinar for Prosecutor’s offices, Law Enforcement, and Allied Professionals working with victims:
This webinar is designed to provide a foundational understanding of LGBTQ+ identities and communities, as well as contextualize the stigma, discrimination, and barriers to reporting. This training will foster a greater cultural competency and sensitivity to the unique needs of the LGBTQ+ community. The goal of this course is to provide tools and strategies to supporting LGBTQ+ survivors and their access to the legal system, while also empowering attendees to apply these skills and techniques in broader society.
Instructors:
C. Castro (they/them) is the Education Coordinator at Out Boulder County. They provide training for local, national, and international organizations, as well as support youth programming and strategic initiatives. Castro brings years of experience working alongside youth-focused organizations such as: The Trevor Project, The Posse Foundation, The Andrew W. Mellon Mays Foundation, Youth Speaks and Chicago Youth Authors. With OBC, they hope to ignite an empathic understanding through experiential learning that bends spacetime into a more compassionate and just world.
Kevin Marples (he/him) is the founder and CEO of BlueGovTech LLC. In 2011, Kevin started his career in law enforcement with the University of Colorado Police Department – Boulder. While there, Kevin began to dive into how law enforcement agencies process and share data, not only between agency staff, but with the community. In 2015, Kevin left CUPD to continue his law enforcement career with the City of Boulder Police Department. In February of 2022, Kevin left employment with the City of Boulder to launch BlueGovTech. In addition to Kevin’s professional experience, he also received a B.S. in Information Technology from the Colorado State University System.
