Job Description

This at-will exempt position is with the Colorado District Attorneys’ Council (CDAC) and is funded by a grant (applied for annually) from the Colorado Department of Transportation for the purpose of providing continuing professional education and other services to prosecutors, law enforcement, and other traffic safety professionals.  Continued employment is contingent upon ongoing grant funding.

Job Title: Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor (TSRP)

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as the expert on impaired driving for prosecutors, law enforcement, the courts, and other traffic safety professionals on a state-wide basis.
  • Develop and provide training programs for prosecutors, law enforcement, and other traffic safety professionals with an emphasis on the effective prosecution of impaired driving and other motor vehicle crashes.
  • Produce training manuals and provide legal research and consultation to prosecutors and law enforcement on legal issues such as probable cause, reasonable articulable suspicion, search and seizure, SFSTs, DREs, blood and breath testing, and trial practice.
  • Produce legal research materials such as memoranda, expert materials, briefs, and amicus briefs to be used for training, hearings, trials, and appeals.
  • Serve as a liaison between prosecutors, law enforcement, courts, victims’ groups, toxicologists, and the public on traffic safety issues.
  • Provide public education and speaking on traffic safety issues.
  • Technical and expert support on traffic safety issues, including assisting impaired driving trial assistance.

Qualifications include the following:

  • Eligible candidates must be licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado.
  • Three years of prosecution experience minimum.
  • Significant county court practice with some felony experience preferred.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • Presentation and training experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with the goal of effective prosecution of impaired driving and other motor vehicle crashes, while also effectively working with parts of much larger teams in multiple disciplines and settings.

Full time grant funded position. Salary is $135,000 – $145,000 DOE with benefits (e.g., PERA eligibility; dental, life, and health insurance; paid sick and vacation time; Colorado court holidays off).

Position is hybrid WFH/Office. Significant in-state and occasional out-of-state travel is required.

TSRP reports to the CDAC Executive Director.
