Serving Garfield, Pitkin, and Rio Blanco Counties
Location: Glenwood Springs, Colorado | Salary: $120,000 – $140,000

Position Summary
The 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office seeks an experienced prosecutor to join our leadership team as Chief Deputy District Attorney (DDA III). This senior-level attorney will supervise deputy district attorneys, oversee complex prosecutions, support the professional development of legal staff, and serve as a strategic advisor to the District Attorney and Assistant District Attorney. The position is based in Glenwood Springs with travel throughout the district, including to Aspen and Meeker.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and support prosecution of felony, juvenile, and misdemeanor cases across county and district courts.
- Directly supervise Deputy District Attorneys, providing coaching, case review, and performance feedback.
- Prepare and try complex, high-profile cases, including homicide, sexual assault, and other major felonies.
- Review charging decisions, plea agreements, and search/arrest warrants.
- Handle or oversee post-trial matters such as sealing petitions, deregistration motions, and appeals.
- Deliver legal and strategic guidance to staff attorneys and law enforcement partners.
- Represent the office in meetings with law enforcement agencies, community partners, and interagency teams.
- Respond to critical incidents and after-hours law enforcement calls as needed.
- Collaborate on office-wide initiatives, including policy development, training, and legislative priorities.
- Maintain and promote a culture grounded in service, empathy, integrity, accountability, professionalism, communication, leadership, and gratitude.
Minimum Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in Colorado (or eligibility to obtain one promptly).
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible prosecutorial experience, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates equivalent competency, including significant felony trial experience and demonstrated leadership or mentorship.
