This presentation is for attorneys who prosecute DUI cases with blood Toxicology results. Topics covered will include an overview of the Toxicology program at the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to include chain of custody, general case flow, and how to read a toxicology report. Prosecutors will gain an understanding of the limitations of toxicology testimony, voir dire of the toxicologist, the CDPHE rules and regulations, and commonly cited literature. General effects of regularly detected drugs such as THC and Fentanyl will be discussed. An emerging class of drugs called Novel Benzodiazepines will also be discussed. Overall, the topics are designed to assist attorneys in their understanding of toxicology cases.
